AxCrypt is free and easy to use open source strong file encryption for Windows , integrated with Windows Explorer. Encrypt, compress, decrypt, wipe, view and edit with a few mouse clicks.

No configuration is necessary for AxCrypt: Download, run the installer, and AxCrypt is ready to use.To encrypt a file, right-click it in Windows Explorer and select ‘AxCrypt – Encrypt’. To edit or view an encrypted file just double-click it. To decrypt, right-click and select ‘AxCrypt – Decrypt’ instead.

- This release is a major rebuild with no new functionality. It updates libraries to current versions and the build environment to the current version. There is also a change to make it work better in some terminal server environments.
The only way to recover a lost passphrase is to try all likely combinations. If you have used a key-file, and lost that, there is nothing to do at all – the number of combinations is simply too large. That is why you must print a paper backup copy if you use key-files.
